Prayer Hacks: Turn your day job into a prayer (7QT)

Each time I read Ephesians, my mind gets hung up on this verse about prayer.

“Pray in the Spirit at all times in every prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert and always persevere in supplication for all the saints.”-Ephesians 6:18

My prayer life has looked different in every season, and I am now beginning to understand that this is okay. I don’t have endless hours to journal as I once did; I have new wonderful people in my life to share my mornings, and prayer with. I need to be open to some new techniques.

Free 2016 Liturgical Calendar

Ya’ll it has been crazy-town around here lately. I have a backlog of 20 half-finished blog posts that I will attempt to finish as things settle down at work and home. As our schedules have been full, I am thankful for the few small things our family has implemented this year to improve our organization.

As I was creating the calendars for the rest of the year and would love to share them here in seven quick takes fashion. Here is what I love about my sit liturgical calendar.

What did you think of that sentence? It sounds like it is coming from a feeble unsure human. But as crazy as it sounds I have been known to craft sentences like this in the past. When I don’t think too hard about it, my speech and writing is sprinkled with this type of language.

There has been a lot of talk around the inter web lately about the way this language undermines itself.  A new app, Just Not Sorry, is making a big splash. The app searches your emails for this unproductive language and explains to you why you should not use it. Pretty savvy. The concept caught the nation’s attention with a shampoo ad of all things. Read More →

Finding Balance in Work and Life

Have you ever struggled to find balance in your day? To feel like you are doing all of things you want to accomplish and being in all of the places you want to be? Do you feel like you are getting sucked down a black hole in one area of your life and have nothing to give in other areas?

If you answered yes, then you and I have something in common. I have been searching over the last couple years to understand what my ideal work situation would look like. I am still not totally sure, but am committed to continue to search.

It is easy to feel guilty, like it is okay to live days overwhelmed or unsatisfied because it is just part of our suffering for Christ. Didn’t God say in Genesis that we were going to have to toil? Read More →
